Tigers tame Aigles Bleues 4-0
Paris Axam scored two goals in the Tigers win on Sunday.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie shut out the Université de Moncton 4-0 on Sunday at Wickwire Field. Dalhousie dominated with 17 shots on goal, compared to Moncton's one. The home team scored once in the first half and added three more in the second half, securing a commanding victory. Aigles Bleues' goalkeeper recorded 13 saves amidst the offensive onslaught.
The first half saw Dalhousie take a proactive stance, with Elise Evans capitalizing on an assist from Niamh Martin Manuel to score the opening goal in the 18th minute. Despite several attempts, including shots by Sarah Giles and Maeve McCloskey, Aigles Bleues' goalkeeper Krista Phillips made critical saves to keep the scoreline close. Dalhousie maintained offensive pressure throughout, with multiple shots on target, concluding the half leading 1-0.
The second half began with Dalhousie asserting control, as Evans tested Phillips with a shot early on. Dalhousie's offensive pressure paid off with Paris Axam breaking the deadlock in the 67th minute, capitalizing on an assist from Evans. Just moments later, Axam struck again in the 69th minute, this time assisted by Giles, extending Dalhousie's lead. The offensive onslaught continued with Jordan Mansfield netting a goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by McCloskey, securing a decisive 4-0 advantage by the end of the half.
Axam scored two goals for the Dalhousie team, converting all three of her shots on goal. Her outstanding performance on the field earned her the title of player of the game. Evans added a goal and an assist, while also leading the team with five shots, all on target, and netting the game-winning goal. Mansfield contributed with a goal, shooting once and finding the back of the net. Giles recorded an assist, her only shot being on goal during the match.
The Tigers hit the road next weekend, when they travel to Fredericton to battle UNB.
