Axam leads Tigers to win over Mounties
Paris Axam recorded a goal and an assist in the Tigers 6-0 win over the Mounties.
HALIFAX, N.S. — Dalhousie University dominated the Mount Allison Mountieswith a decisive 6-0 victory on Friday at Wickwire Field. The Tigers netted three goals in each half, maintaining relentless offensive pressure with 14 total shots, 10 of which were on target. Dalhousie's defense was equally impressive, allowing only one shot on goal, securing a shutout for their goalkeeper.
The first half commenced with Dalhousie gaining an early foothold, as Arianna Rushenas netted the opening goal at the 20-minute mark to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The Tigers offensive momentum continued with Elise Evans scoring twice, the first goal assisted by Paris Axam at 30:21 and the second with the help of Maeve McCloskey at 42:00, extending the lead to 3-0. Meanwhile, Emily Toth delivered a solid performance in goal, denying the Mounties' early shot attempt and maintaining a clean sheet through the half.
The second half began with Dalhousie asserting offensive pressure, as Axam took a shot in the 47th minute and continued to threaten with multiple corner kicks. The scoring momentum shifted further in the Tigers' favor when an own goal in the 58th minute increased their lead. Sally Steinberg then capitalized on the team's dominance, scoring twice in the 69th and 76th minutes, sealing a decisive 6-0 victory over the Mounties. Paris Axam was named the player of the game for her outstanding contribution both in playmaking and attacking efforts.
Rushenas scored the game-winning goal for Dalhousie, converting one of her four shots, three of which were on target. Evans found the back of the net twice, scoring on both of her shots on goal. Steinberg also tallied two goals, making the most of her two attempts. Axam contributed with an assist and recorded three shots, with one on goal.
The win extends the Tigers win streak to 6 games this season and are the lone team to have not dropped points.
The Tigers return to the field on Sunday when they host the Moncton Aigles Bleues at 1pm at Wickwire Field.
