Evans leads Tigers to 4-2 win
Elise Evan scored two in the Tigers 4-2 win over the Mount Allison Mounties.
SACKVILLE, N.B. — The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 4-2 on Friday, at Alumni Field in Sackville, New Brunswick. The Tigers built a 2-1 lead by halftime and maintained their advantage with two additional second-half goals. Mount Allison managed only two shots on goal throughout the match, both resulting in goals, but could not keep pace with Dalhousie's offensive pressure.
The first half set an intense tone as Dalhousie took the early lead with Paris Axam scoring the opening goal at the 10th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity. Just under ten minutes later, Elise Evans extended the advantage to 2-0 for the Tigers, assisted by Axam, showcasing a strong offensive connection. Although the Mounties' Riley Curry narrowed the gap with a goal at the 23rd minute, Dalhousie maintained their 2-1 lead into the break, despite several additional shot attempts and a few fouls.
The second half commenced with Dalhousie swiftly extending their lead as Sally Steinberg scored in the 46th minute, assisted by Maeve McCloskey. Despite Mount Allison narrowing the gap with a goal at the 60th minute, Dalhousie responded decisively when Evans found the back of the net in the 65th minute with an assist from Alexandra Fieltsch. The half saw the Tigers capitalize on their offensive opportunities, maintaining control and securing a 4-2 victory.
Axam contributed significantly with one goal and one assist, converting her only shot into a score. Named player of the game, Evans added two goals to her tally, taking four shots, with three being on target. McCloskey and Fieltsch each recorded an assist, with McCloskey attempting three shots and Fieltsch having her single shot on goal.
The Tigers return home on Sunday to face the Saint Mary's Huskies in the battle of Halifax. Kick off is set for 1:00 PM at Wickwire field. The Mounties travel to Fredericton on Sunday to face the REDS.
