HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie fell to the Laval volleyball team in straight sets at the Dalplex on Friday evening, with scores of 28-26, 25-20, 25-19. The Rouge et Or improved its record to 5-0, while Dalhousie struggled despite a strong first-set performance.
Dalhousie and Laval engaged in a tight first set, marked by multiple lead changes and critical plays. Laval gained an early advantage, capitalizing on strong attacks from Terell Tchouassi and Felix-Antoine Perron, who each contributed key kills. Dalhousie responded with a rally led by Jacob Oyler, who scored several crucial points to level the score at 14-14. Late in the set, Dalhousie edged ahead, but a series of errors allowed Laval to tie the score at 24-24. In the tense final moments, Laval secured the set 28-26 after a decisive block from Max Losier and Jacob Gendron.
In the second set, Dalhousie started with a narrow lead, with Dillan Morphet securing early points through effective kills. However, Laval responded with Max Losier and Felix-Antoine Perron leading their offense, creating a back-and-forth battle that saw the teams tied at 14-14. A series of errors, including service and attack errors on both sides, kept the score close. Laval gained momentum through Charles St-Aubin's service ace at 17-16, leading to a strategic timeout by Dalhousie. Despite Dillan Morphet's efforts to close the gap, Laval capitalized on another service ace and strong blocking to win the set 25-20, closing with a kill by Felix-Antoine Perron.
Laval secured a 25-19 victory in the third set against Dalhousie, propelled by strong performances from Felix-Antoine Perron and Jacob Gendron. Perron contributed significantly with multiple kills, including a critical service ace at 19-15. Dalhousie's Dillan Morphet and Jacob Oyler made impactful plays, but service errors and attack errors hindered their momentum. A decisive kill by Gendron from Charles St-Aubin concluded the set, sealing the win for the Rouge et Or.
Dillan Morphet led the offensive charge with 13 kills and added one ace, contributing significantly to his team's performance. Jacob Oyler recorded 11 kills with a hitting percentage of .360, while also adding four digs to his defensive efforts. Samuel Gallagher directed the attack with 24 assists and added five digs. Gabriel Moshett anchored the defense with seven digs over the course of three sets.
