King backstops Tigers to win
The Tigers beat the Aigles Bleues 2-1.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie defeated the Université de Moncton team (7-6-0, 7-6-0), 2–1, at home. Dalhousie's goaltender made 20 saves, while the team secured the win with a second-period goal.
The first period commenced with Dalhousie gaining control of the opening faceoff. Moncton's Valerie Lamoureux attempted the first shot of the game, but Madison King made the save. Dalhousie took the lead at 8:58 when Leah MacSween scored, assisted by Jill Imeson and Avery Holmes, marking her first goal of the season. Annick Boudreau made multiple saves for the Aigles Bleues, while King effectively protected Dalhousie's net, maintaining a 1-0 lead at the end of the period.
Dalhousie increased their lead to 2–0 early in the second period when Avery Holmes, who was named the player of the game, scored at 00:58, assisted by Abby Larkin and Jill Imeson. Despite Moncton's attempts to respond, King made key saves on shots from Sara Regimbald, Marie-Soleil Simard, and Zoe Falardeau. The Aigles Bleues faced a tripping penalty at 17:18, giving Dalhousie a power play opportunity. However, Boudreau's saves during the power play kept Dalhousie from extending their lead further as the period ended.
Moncton narrowed the gap in the third period with a power-play goal by Maritza Labrie at 13:41, assisted by Valerie Hache. The period began with the Aigles Bleues dominating faceoffs, as Erica Plourde and Labrie consistently won draws against Dalhousie. Dalhousie had opportunities to extend their lead, notably during an early power play, but Boudreau made several key saves to keep Moncton in contention. King also delivered crucial stops in goal for Dalhousie as they held on for a 2-1 victory.
MacSween contributed significantly with one goal and one assist, finishing with a plus-minus of +2. Holmes scored once and added an assist, securing the game-winning goal. King backstopped the team with 20 saves, allowing just one goal. Larkin bolstered the defense with two blocked shots and maintained a plus-minus of +1.
