REDS defeat Tigers, 1-0
FREDERICTON, N.B. — The Dalhousie Tigers fell to the UNB REDS 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the BMO Centre. The only goal of the match came in the first half, and despite Dalhousie's efforts, including two shots on goal, they were unable to equalize.
The first half commenced with the Dalhousie Tigers creating early opportunities, including a corner kick by Mohammed Tolba at the 9-minute mark. Despite sustained pressure, the Tigers were unable to convert, with Mohammed Wahdan's shot sailing high in the 25th minute.
UNB countered effectively, breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute when Diego Carreno found the back of the net, assisted by Hunter Delahunt. Dalhousie continued to challenge but ended the half trailing 1-0.
The second half commenced with a series of strategic plays from the Tigers, as Tolba's shot in the 53rd minute was saved by UNB's goalkeeper Jensen Brown. Despite multiple corner kick opportunities, Dalhousie couldn't capitalize on these set pieces, with Theodor Tait delivering several well-placed corners that were ultimately defended by UNB.
Dalhousie maintained offensive pressure, with Kyle Routledge attempting a shot in the 85th minute which was again stopped by Brown. On the defensive end, Sinclair Astridge made crucial saves to deny Delahunt in both the 67th and 87th minutes, keeping Dalhousie within reach. The half concluded with UNB holding onto their initial lead, as the score remained 1-0 in favor of the home team.
Sinclair Astridge recorded three saves during the match, allowing just one goal against four shots faced. Mohammed Tolba led the team in shot attempts with two, one of which was on target. Kyle Routledge registered one shot, which was on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
The Tigers head to Cape Breton next, on Sunday, October 5 to battle the Capers.
