HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — The Dalhousie Tigers secured a commanding 2-0 victory over the first-place Université de Moncton at Wickwire Field on Sunday, backed by a strong second-half performance and a shutout by the Dalhousie goalkeeper.
The first half commenced with the Tigers asserting offensive pressure, as Mohammed Wahdan and Mohammed Tolba both tested Moncton's goalkeeper Soan Janssen within the opening five minutes. Despite the Tigers' persistent attempts, including multiple shots from Ben Hashimoto and another effort from Tolba, Janssen's saves kept the scoreline unchanged. Sinclair Astridge, Dalhousie's goalkeeper, also showcased his skills with key saves against Mael Lavail's shots, ensuring the half concluded in a scoreless draw.
The second half saw Dalhousie capitalize on their opportunities, breaking the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Hashimoto netted his first goal with an assist from Cole Savage. Just three minutes later, Theodor Tait doubled the lead with a well-placed finish, assisted by Tolba, increasing Dalhousie's advantage to 2-0. The team maintained offensive pressure throughout the half, highlighted by multiple corner kicks and a solid defensive effort by Astridge, who recorded a crucial save early in the period.
Jack Ellis was named the player of the game, highlighting his strong defensive role in the match. Hashimoto scored a decisive goal, leading the Tigers with three shots on goal and securing the game-winning tally. Astridge maintained a clean sheet in goal, recording three saves over 90 minutes of play. Savage contributed to the offense with an assist, supporting the team's attacking efforts. Tait added to the scoring with a goal, converting his only shot on target.
Aigles Bleus keeper Janssen made several highlight-reel saves on the Tigers in the game to keep the scoreline close.
The Tigers return to the field on Saturday when they travel to Fredericton to battle the UNB REDS.
