Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer head coach Alan Jazic is pleased to announce the commitment of Jack Ellis for the 2021-22 season.
A native Haligonian currently living in Liverpool, England, Ellis plays for Rainhill Town in the West Cheshire League in England. A former junior trialist with Wigan Athletic Football Club and Everton Football Club, the midfielder more recently was on trial with the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer. Ellis has also suited up for the Liverpool County Football Association U18 team two years in a row.
Ellis and his Rainhill High School teammates are four-time St Helens Council Championship winners and were English Schools Football Association National Cup semifinalists in 2019.
“It’s a real full circle moment for me to return to my place of birth (Halifax) to attend Dalhousie,” says Ellis. “I’m really excited to be a part of the squad and can’t wait to meet up with the team and learn from Alan and his coaching staff. Every team I have played on, the objective is always to win trophies and that’s no different here, so I’m going to work as hard as I can and give everything I have to help Dal be successful.”
A two-time Rainhill High School male athlete of the year, Ellis will be studying management at Dalhousie.
“I’m really excited to introduce and welcome Jack to the Tigers Family for the upcoming season,” says Jazic. “He has all the values that we look for in a Tiger – he’s a fantastic young man with great character who will be a great addition to the team and locker room. He’s also a fantastic footballer who possesses the qualities to have an immediate impact. Jack is technically very good, dominant in the air, composed on the ball with an excellent left foot. He’s highly competitive and will no doubt control the midfield and make it his own for years to come. This is a statement signing and shows this team is heading in a very strong and positive direction.”
Both of Ellis’ parents are Dalhousie Tigers soccer alumni. His mother, Carla Perry, was a three-time CIAU (U SPORT) first team all-Canadian and two-time team MVP while leading the Tigers to national silver medal in 1993, followed by gold in 1994. His father, Mark Ellis, was also a first team all-Canadian and two-time team MVP and led the Tigers in scoring during their 1995 CIAU championship year. He also helped lead the Tigers to a national bronze medal finish in 1997. Both have been inducted to Dalhousie’s Sport Hall of Fame with their respective gold medal-winning teams.
The men’s soccer team begins regular season action on Saturday, September 11, 2021, when they host the UNB Reds on Wickwire Field.
