First Year Feature: Ethan Wongus
We'd like to introduce you to first year forward, Ethan Wongus
The transition from high school to university athletics is significant. We're highlighting first year athletes from all varsity teams this season who are on the path to achieving greatness here at Dalhousie University.
This week we would like to introduce Ethan Wongus, a first year forward on the men's hockey team. Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta. Wongus is studying Management.
How long have you been playing hockey?
I've been playing hockey since I was 4 years old.
How did you start playing hockey or get into it?
My dad got me started in hockey when I was 4 and I never looked back.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I played football and basketball growing up along with hockey.
Who is somebody in the hockey community you admired growing up and why?
Growing up I admired Sidney Crosby because he was a very humble person and high skilled player, I also admired Pk Subban because he's both an elite hockey player and a person of color.
What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?
Playing playoff hockey with the Maine Nordiques in front of sold-out crowds.
What made you choose Dalhousie University?
I chose to attend Dalhousie because of the culture the hockey program is building and the academics.
Did any of your family members attend Dalhousie University?
My father Stan Wongus, uncle, aunt and grandmother all attended Dalhousie.
How has the transition from high school sports to university sports been for you so far?
Transition from junior hockey to university has been fun. The games are tougher and mean more since there are less games in a season. Also learning how to manage school and hockey has been a refreshing experience.
How do you balance academics and sports?
I balance it through weekly reminders and calendars.
What are some of your interests outside of sports?
Hiking, spending time with family and friends.
Any pre-event superstitions/routines?
Tie left skate before the right.
Any hidden talents?
Good at pickle ball.
