Okwii commits to Tigers for 2026-2027 season
Dalhousie Tigers men's basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Blessed Okwii for the 2026-27 season.
A 6'8" post player from Kampala, Uganda, Okwii joins the Tigers after competing at Southwestern College, where he developed into a versatile frontcourt presence known for his size, skill, and impact on both ends of the floor. Bringing valuable collegiate experience to Halifax, Blessed is expected to strengthen the Tigers' interior play while adding depth, athleticism, and leadership to the lineup.
Throughout his basketball journey, Okwii has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement and a strong work ethic that has allowed him to compete at a high level. His ability to contribute as a scorer, rebounder, passer, and defender makes him a valuable addition to the Tigers as they prepare for the upcoming U SPORTS season.
When asked why he chose Dalhousie, Okwii emphasized the opportunity the university provides both on and off the court.
"Dalhousie represented the perfect opportunity to continue my growth both as a student-athlete and as a person, while surrounding myself with a culture built on resilience, development, and contributing to the team's success."
Coach Plato shared his excitement about the team's newest addition.
"I am very pleased to welcome Blessed "Tobias" Okwii to the Tiger family. The addition of Tobias gives us an experienced post player who is equally skilled at both ends of the court. He is a solid offensive threat on the inside and is equally adept at finishing with both hands. He is a skilled passer and provides added depth up front.
On the defensive end, Tobias is a solid rebounder who is a capable rim protector. I have no doubt Okwii will be an excellent addition to the Tigers this year. "
