Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Grace Calnan to the lineup for the 2019-20 season.
Calnan, a 6’3 middle blocker from Cole Harbour, N.S. has racked up several accolades in the last two years, earning the Cole Harbour District High School (CHDHS) girls’ volleyball rookie of the year award in her first season and the most valuable player award last year.
“I’m very excited to play with a team and for a coach that I am familiar with and who has been so successful,” says Calnan. “I am happy that I have the opportunity to stay at home, as well as play for a top-ranked team.”
A member of the Tigers Volleyball Club, she and her teammates are the reigning provincial champions and earned provincial all-star honours in each of her three seasons. She also was selected to Canada’s 2017 youth national team and Nova Scotia’s 2018 Canada Cup team.
Calnan will be working towards a Bachelor of Science while at Dalhousie University.
“We are very excited have Grace Calnan join our program,” says Scott. “She has a strong work ethic and is committed to success in addition to being an excellent student and great teammate, which are important traits for our program. On the court, she jumps and moves well and will be a force at the net attacking and blocking. Combining all of this, she has the potential to develop into an important player for our program in the years to come to help us strive towards our ultimate goal of winning a national championship.”
The Tigers just earned their first number one over all ranking in the U SPORTS Top 10. They return to the court on Friday, February 15, 2019 when they travel to Fredericton to face the University of New Brunswick Reds.
