(Halifax, NS) – In the second match of the season for the Dalhousie Tigers women's volleyball team, they took on the cross-town rival Saint Mary's Huskies. The Tigers were strong in the second half of each set as they took the straight-set 3-0 win.

The Tigers got off to a strong start in the first set, with Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) getting in on the action early, picking up two kills and a solo block to help the Tigers to a 7-2 lead.

The Tigers were able to extend their lead with Moore continuing to lead the way along with contributions from Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) as they took a 16-6 lead into the technical break.

The Huskies were getting most of their offensive output from Anna Watt (Calgary, AB) who picked up three kills before the timeout.

Out of the technical break, it was all Tigers in the set, as they quickly took the first set after only allowing two points after the timeout. Victoria Turcot (Halifax, NS) capped off the set with a hard kill to make it 25-8.

The service game for the Tigers was showing to be trouble for the Huskies early in the set, with both Libby Falkenham (Halifax, NS) and Moore forcing the Huskies into attacking errors off of the serve. The early run put the Tigers up 10-2.

The Huskies made a run of their own after calling a timeout with Lindsay Donovan (London, ON) gave the Tigers trouble with her serve, picking up back to back service aces, and Bethany Smith (Moncton, NB) collecting two big kills.

The Tigers were still in control of the set at the technical break however, after a great rally ended with a Huskies attack going long to give the Tigers a 16-8 advantage.

Once again out of the technical timeout it looked like the Tigers would make quick work finishing off the set before the Huskies picked up five straight points with Donovan leading the way with the serve.

The Tigers were able to win a point, and Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) was finally able to cap off the set with a very nice service ace to win the set 25-14, and take a 2-0 lead.

The teams traded points early, with Simran Gill (Mississauga, ON) picking up two for the Huskies while Donovan added a few more as well.

On the other side Julie Moore continued to lead the Tigers attack, but the early points were highlighted by a massive kill from setter Courtney Baker to help push the Tigers ahead as they went into the break up 16-10.

The Tigers continued the trend of strong play in the second half of sets, with Mieke DuMont helping the Tigers extend their lead to 22-11.

A service error by the Huskies was the final point of the match for the Tigers, as they took the 25-15 win in the set, and a 3-0 win in the match.

Anna Watt led the Huskies in the match with 6 kills and 14 digs, while Julie Moore led the match with a game-high 11 kills, and Hannah Aldcorn (Calgary, AB) earned the Subway Player of the Game title with 4 kills and 5 huge blocks for the Tigers.

The Tigers are back on the court next Friday when they host Moncton, while the Huskies will hit the road tomorrow when they travel to face UNB.
