McArthur and Yallowega commit to Tigers for 2019-20

Dalhousie Tigers women’s hockey head coach Sean Fraser is pleased to announce the commitment of Alex McArthur and Alix Yallowega for the 2018-19 season.

A native of MacDonald, MB, McArthur comes to the Tigers from the Central Plains Female AAA Capitals. Named the top defensive player for the 2018-19 season, McArthur racked up 36 penalty minutes while adding seven assist and a goal. A member of Team Manitoba, she attended the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta. She previously played for the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy where she was a member of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League championship winning team in 2017-18.

“I am beyond excited to be continuing my education and hockey career at Dalhousie University,” says McArthur.

“Alex is a dynamic player and a very solid offensive defence woman,” says Fraser. “Alex skates the game very well and her vision will help her transition into the University game.”

Joining McArthur is Winnipeg, MB. Native Alix Yallowega. Yallowega has played the last four seasons for the Balmoral Hall Blazers, a University Prepatory school in Winnipeg. The two-year assistant captain led her team to the 2018-19 Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL) championship title, accumulating 20 points in 24 regular season games along the way. A 5’7 forward, Yallowega was also named to the JWHL all-star team for the 2018-19 season.

Off the ice she has been named a Head’s Honour Roll student every year of high school and won the English Award for the 2017-18 school year.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dreams both on and off the ice next year at Dalhousie,” says Yallowega.

While attending Dalhousie, Yallowega will be studying in the Faculty of Science.

“Alix is coming off a championship season with Balmoral Hall in the JWHL where she was one of her team’s leading scorers,” says Fraser. “Alix is a skilled forward with a knack for finding the back of the net.  We are looking forward to adding Alix’s offence to this year’s lineup.”

The Tigers open their season on October 2nd when they host cross town rivals Saint Mary's.
