Halifax, NS- The Dalhousie Tigers scored three unanswered goals early on Sunday afternoon on their way to a 3-1 win over the StFX X-Men at Wickwire Field in AUS men's soccer action. The win moves the Tigers into a tie for first place in the AUS table while the X-Men cling onto the final playoff spot.
The Tigers managed to get on the board in the first five minutes of the game. Freddy Bekkers (Halifax, NS) fired a shot that StFX goalie Thomas Pieroway (Conception Bay, NF) could not handle giving Zach Shaffelburg (Wolfville, NS) a tap in goal off the rebound.
Shaffelburg was back at it in the 18th minute striking the ball from outside of the 18-yard box to the top corner of the net. 2-0 Tigers.
Bekkers was able to stretch the lead to 3 in the 29th minute off a cross from Mark Hagen that landed perfectly on Bekkers right foot in goal scoring position.
The Tigers took the 3-0 lead into the dressing room at half.
In the second half the X-Men were the dominant team with multiple chances including Dylan Lawrence (Ottawa, ON) ringing a shot off the crossbar. StFX outshot the Tigers 8-1 in the second frame.
The X-Men were able to get one by Dalhousie keeper, Jason Ross (Bedford, NS) in the final minutes off the boot of Natneal Tecle. Ross stopped 5 of 6 shots fired on goal.
