In AUS men's basketball action at the Dalplex, the Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 70-59 in a game that saw things get close and interesting on several occasions.
The first quarter saw Dalhousie take a slight advantage early by taking a 12-5 lead in the first five minutes. They were able to keep this pace with a 17-10 lead with three minutes left. The Tigers ending up getting a 25-14 lead after the first
In the second quarter, Dalhousie starting to clamp down by taking a 30-15 lead with six minutes left in the half. However, the Huskies got a roll going and got the deficit down to three at 33-30 with about two minutes left. The Tigers did some minor damage control and took a 39-33 lead into halftime.
As the third quarter got underway, Dalhousie recovered from the second and got back to scoring, taking a 52-36 lead with about four minutes left in the quarter. The Huskies put a slight dent into this lead, making the score 56-43 with about two minutes left. But, the Tigers got two more points to make it 58-43 after three quarters.
The fourth quarter started with both teams trading baskets, to the point where the score was 62-56 in favour of Dalhousie with about five minutes left in the fourth. The Tigers got the upper hand when they took a 65-56 with 90 seconds left. The Tigers ending up getting an alley-oop with 58 seconds left to seal the victory.
On offence, Sven Stammberger (Halifax, NS) led all players with 23 points, adding 15 rebounds for a double double. Subway Player of the Game Jordan Aquino-Serjue (Montreal, QC) chipped in 12 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.
For scoring, the Huskies were led by Nikita Nasongo (Montreal, QC) with 27 points, along with five rebounds and four assists. Kemar Alleyne (Toronto, ON) had nine points and two boards for the Huskies.
This is each team's last game of the first half of the regular season. Dalhousie starts their second half against the Huskies on January 6 at 8 at the Homburg Centre, while the Huskies face the Acadia Axemen in their first game back on January 4 at 8 in Wolfville.
